Kachemak Bay Shorebird Festival | Kenai Peninsula Tourism Marketing Council

SAVE THE DATES! 25th Annual Festival: Thursday, May 4th- Sunday, May 7th, 2017.
(Registration will open at 12 pm on Monday, March 20th)

Welcome to the 25th Kachemak Bay Shorebird Festival, Homer’s Annual Celebration of the Spring and Alaska’s largest wildlife viewing festival. This year we’re rolling and gliding. Try Birding by Fat Bike or Paddleboard. Tech lovers  might want to try Smartphone Birding, and Digiscoping. Don’t worry, we’ll still offer your favorite activities, including Birding Hot Spots, the Junior Birder Program, and Live Bird Presentations. Have your life lists handy- this weekend holds the possibility to spot over 130 migratory bird species, along with Homer’s plentiful resident seabirds, waterfowl, and woodland birds.

In addition to the birds and viewing stations, we have many activities planned for you, including Family Bird Walks, new field excursions, and additional science talks, all led by expert guides, naturalists, and speakers.  This year’s Keynote Speaker is Drew Lanham and our Featured Author is Paul Bannick.  Our Festival Art features work by the late George West.

The Friends of Alaska National Wildlife Refuges, will continue to work with the US Fish and Wildlife Service to bring you the festival. Be sure to check out the Friends Information Booth at Islands & Ocean, attend the Birders Breakfast, and consider joining their efforts.

Our Bird Art & Trip Auction Fundraiser will return in 2017, featuring Alaskan artists and Alaskan birds.  The art and trips will be auctioned online only and can be viewed online and at the Islands and Ocean Visitor Center, before and during the Festival. To learn more, or to bid on the art, check back here for details.

The Kachemak Bay Shorebird Festival could not happen without the dedication of countless volunteers and sponsors. Thank you to everyone who helps, and everyone who attends. On behalf of the Festival Planning Committee, please join us in Homer, for this annual Celebration of Spring.

Happy Birding!
