The Kenai National Wildlife Refuge (NWR) presents the Historic Cabin Camping on the Refuge and a demo knife draw. This workshop is free and open to the public and will be held at the Kenai Chamber of Commerce and Visitor Center on February 26 from 4:30-5:30 pm.
During this public talk, the Refuge Cabin Manager will share some history of the public-use cabins that are managed and maintained. He will demonstrate the basics of cabin log preparation including how to “scale” a log using a drawknife. The ambassador animal for this program and month is the porcupine. A story about how cabins managers responded to a porcupine taking up residence under one of the historic cabins over several years.
